SCIATH NA SCOL CAMPAIGN 2014

It has been a faultless campaign in the Sciath na Scol so far.  With Rusheen N.S. winning 5 games out of 5.  Before we started playing competitively we had a friendly against Ballyvourney and we won that game.  Our first competitive match was against Knockraha.  It was a hard match but we pulled through winning by 5 points.  Next we faced Dripsey,  they weren’t as good as Knockraha but Dripsey still posed a threat.  However, we beat them by 5 goals and 3 points.  Our last group game was against Gael Scol Cobh.  We weren’t expecting a hard match because Cobh hadn’t won a match.  They were still a good team and we only beat them by 7 points.  Our semi-final game was on Thursday against Inch N.S. and we were expecting a hard match.  Happily we won by a single point (2-9 to 3-5) and we now look forward to meeting Ballintotis in the Final.  We all know the team wouldn’t be half as good if we didn’t have our dedicated coaches, Mr. Coakley, Mr. Twomey and Hugh Kelleher.

THE BRENDAN MARTIN CUP VISITS RUSHEEN N.S.

On the 28th of September, Briege Corkery, Rena Buckley, Mairead Corkery and Marie Ambrose came to our school with three cups they had won with the Cork Ladies Football Team.

When they came around the corner of the school we gave them the biggest welcome they could ever have.  We sang the girls a song and they started smiling. When they walked up the ramp, the teachers gave them a big hello and Mighty Master Coakley introduced them to the whole school.  Briege said some wonderful words and so did Mr. Coakley.  He told a story from the past when Briege was in 2nd Class and crawled under the keepers legs in a football match and scored a goal.

Moira Twomey, on behalf of the school, presented Briege with a photo frame containing various photos to commemorate the All-Ireland Final.  The girls then signed some t-shirts and took some photos with us.  They also gave us some sweets out of the Brendan Martin, Munster and League Cups.  Briege said homework off for the day.  It was a great day for the school to have someone from the school go up the steps of Croke Park to get the biggest cup in Ladies Football, the Brendan Martin Cup.  Well done Briege from the whole school of RUSHEEN.
