Sr. Siobhan Corkery of Drombeg and a former pupil of Rusheen N.S. came back to her Alma Mater  last week.  Sr. Siobhan is one of the Congregational Leaders of the world renowned organisations, The Medical Missionaries of Mary.  This is an organisation that carries out great work in “Bringing The Good News To The Whole World”  and works in many countries in Africa such as South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Angola, etc.  They also work in Central America in places like Honduras, Nigeria, etc., where people are, in Sr. Siobhan’s own words, held captive by fear, poverty and violence.  They are primarily concerned about the health and wellbeing of people in these areas.

Sr. Siobhan told the pupils of the great work that her organisation does and she showed them a video “Rooted in Love”.  In it the pupils saw the plight of these poor people and how they are exploited by others.  She was then presented with a cheque of €900.00 which the 5th and 6th class pupils had raised during Lent by holding a fundraising skipathon.  She commenced the pupils for their great work and told them that she would put the money to good use helping people less well off than ourselves in other parts of the world.   Sr. Siobhan brought a number of interesting items from Africa which were then raffled among the pupils.
