It has been a very busy October for the Parents Association, having two big events to host.

Eileen Deasy’s Retirement

On Saturday night 7th October, a very pleasant Retirement Party took place in Tigh Uí Laoighre, Bealnamorrive which was jointly hosted by Rusheen School P.A. and B.O.M. (Board of Management).

Eileen had been teaching in Rusheen School for 42years and saw many positive changes in Rusheen School. In the beginning, Rusheen was just a two teacher school and in those early days Eileen would have taught four classes, junior infants up to second class. In later years, as the school grew in prosperity, Eileen was tasked with the junior and senior infants and she was a master at it. She took our children under her wing when they started and she nurtured them, giving them confidence, a positive education and solid foundation going forward.

A few words and presentations were made on behalf of Rusheen P.A. and B.O.M. and Eileen aptly concluded the formalities with a rendition of “The Blackboard of My Heart”. Refreshments, (complimentary sandwiches by Jason & Katherine McCarthy) were served after the Cake cutting.

A lovely atmosphere followed where Eileen, her husband Tony, son Olan and members of her extended family gathered with parents both present and past, school staff and past pupils and the night ebbed away chatting about years gone by.

On Saturday, October 7th a well-deserved retirement function was held in Tigh Ui Laoighre, Bealnamorrive in honour of Mrs. Eileen Deasy.  Eileen’s husband, Tony, and son, Olan, were among the large crowd of family, past pupils, parents, colleagues and friends who all gathered to show their appreciation.

Eileen was Deputy Principal of Rusheen N.S. and taught in the junior side of the school for her  entire teaching career.  Speakers Gerard Coakley, Principal, Fr. Joe O’Mahony, Chairperson of the Board of Management, and Siobhan Twomey, Chairperson of the Parents’ Association, all paid tribute to Eileen for her 42 years dedicated service to Rusheen N.S.

They marvelled at her longevity of service and her enthusiastic dedication to the job.  She was a source of inspiration to all the staff and was always willing to share her wisdom and sound advice.  The wonderful and calm way she introduced junior infants to school was appreciated and her contribution to First Communion Day in Rusheen will always be remembered.  All agreed she was a marvellous teacher and laid a wonderful foundation stone for learning in Rusheen National School and she and Tony were wished many happy years of retirement together.

Eileen herself thanked everyone for coming on the night.  She had thoroughly enjoyed all the aspects of her teaching career, with the exception of “Croke Park Hours” , from the day she arrived on a Honda 50 on the 1st of September, 1975 to the present day.  She finished up with a most appropriate song “From the Blackboard of My Life”.

Presentations were then made on behalf of the Board of Management and Parents’ Association.  A beautiful retirement cake was cut and refreshments were served. A trip down memory lane ensued for the remainder of the night.
